For 34 years, our family run aviary has always been a very hands-on one. We always strive to give the babies the attention and socialization they need in order to grow up to be great, interactive companions.

We are fortunate that our family and good friends are all involved in making our aviary work smoothly. There is no way that we could implement the raising and socialization program that we do without them.

The relentless physical work involved, especially during the busy times of the season, is lessened by many hands pitching in. This gives me the luxury of time to gently syringe feed the little tykes and when the time is right, to wean the older babies based on the principles of Abundance Weaning, originally trademarked by Phoebe Greene Linden.

Weaning is a balancing act and we don't follow a strict timeline. We have had babies from the same nest have different weaning priorities. In our opinion, it's better not to rush their development, but to guide them into habits that not only give them good eating habits that contribute to brilliant health, but daily practice of what it's like to play, be interactive with humans, and develop behaviors that are all the cornerstones of a terrific companion. Time consuming? Yes. Worth the effort? We think so. And so do the owners of our parrots.J
